• Wanna go to the Rolling Stone Super Bowl party?!?

Posted by on January 23, 2012

Click on this picture and take a few seconds to vote for us to open for Jane’s Addiction and The Roots on Feb 5th before the Super Bowl! If we win, we’re going to give away a pair of tickets to the party. Just think, YOU could be just inches away from Dave Navarro’s sweet pierced nipples. Yeah. I know. SO GO VOTE! Voting is only this week and you can vote ONCE EVERY DAY! So we need all the help we can get. We’ll pick the winner randomly and announce them when they announce us the winner. DO IT!

Thanks! We love you guys. The new album is nearly done and we can’t wait to put it in your hands. In the mean time, help us open for a band we love and you could be schmoozing with who knows who.

    Cheers,
    TLGY

Its round two back here at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville under the helm of Travis Wyrick. Under his tutelage we’ve completely changed all our songs. “That Girl” is now “Black Girls,” “Ton of Bricks” is now “Ton of Chicks,” and “Good Energy” is um… uh… you don’t want to know what it is. He’s turned us into Steel Panther.

    Kidding, by the way.

Darren is once again destroying some drum tracks. And god bless him. He does shit behind the kit that I just can’t even begin to understand. I refuse to watch him play from behind the kit because when I can see all four limbs moving independently, I feel like my head is on the verge of short circuiting á la the fembots in Austin Powers. He’s a magician.

Ok. Enough stroking Darren. His ego, that is. Stroking his ego. Gonna start slamming in guitars this week using this little gem.

This is the Nace M1-7 on loan from Trillium Amplifiers in Indianapolis. Take a closer look at it at www.trilliumamps.com. I’ll post more about it later on when it starts spitting out hits. (Snoogans.)

    Talk with you soon.

    Oh yeah… Happy New Year.

  • Studio Update – Day …oh, I don’t know anymore.

Shit’s coming together. It does that when you spend enough time molding it. The record, I mean.

The last couple days have been heavily laden with guitars and vocals. And some snaps and claps. And a little bit of snoring when Steve dozes off in the control room. He’s finally gonna get some low end on these tracks today and I know he’s pumped. He’s over in the corner doing fingertip push-ups right now.

So today and tomorrow we’ll be finishing up this round of songs and then at the ass-crack of dawn Thursday, we’re back in the van headed to Indianapolis for our show at The Vogue with Jon McLaughlin. If this is not in the calendar on your iPhone or Droid (™George Lucas) or Michael Douglas Motorola DynaTAC, put it in. It’s going to be a slick show. Here’s a little bit of what we’ve been doing in the studio. And if you’ve never seen Jon play, here’s a tasty morsel to give you an idea of the skills he brings to pay the bills. You’re gonna want to be there.

    Holler,

  • Veterans Day

Posted by on November 14, 2011

It’s Monday morning. Back in the studio slamming in some vocals. Wanted you to see a video our friends Asa Blevins and DoItIndy created with our song “The Ballad of William and Maxine” from our live record. Due to some technical difficulties, it’s a little late for Veterans Day, but this goes out to all the vets. Thanks for serving.

  • Studio Update – Day 4

It’s Saturday. Spending a lovely day in the studio nursing a stomach full of chimichangas and watching college football. Joe’s laying down more vocals at the moment. Travis, our producer, is working Joe’s vocal chords like a cow’s udder and squeezing every last note out of there he can produce. And Joe’s taking off the technicolor dreamcoat and singing with some serious balls. Can’t wait for you to hear it.

I’m now 63 and 1 in ping pong and the 1 is only because I landed ass-first on a sprinkler head and had to forfeit.

Drums are done. Guitars are on two tracks. Vocals are on two tracks. Steve is on a recliner. Things are moving along quite splendidly.

Here’s a video that is 10% music and 90% shenanigans. Enjoy.

Day two of recording is in the books. We’re starting to have a foundation, something to stand on.

Getting drums down requires a lot of energy on our parts. I mean we are just slaving away in here.

(The hollow click you hear at the end of the first hit is Steve getting hit in the forehead.)

We’re pretty sure Darren was working hard in the drum booth, but we’re not sure; we didn’t really pay attention. That’s not true, of course. Playing ping pong isn’t exactly slaving away.

Ok, in all seriousness, we’re actually working in here. The drums are sounding HUGE, and it really helps that Darren’s such a badass player. He’s beating the shit out of his drums and he’s making beat magic in here. We’re really excited for you to hear this stuff when it’s finished. Here’s a little snipperoo of Drayl recording a song called “Click Track.”

Can you feel us silently judging him from behind the camera? God, wait til I have to stand in the control room nailing guitar tracks with five people watching me from three feet away, hearing every errant string noise while I have the ‘I think I have to poop’ face frozen in place. Good times.

That’s enough for now. We’ll be in touch.

    Cheers,
    The Last Good Year

Day one of the new album recording at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville, TN is in the books. It was a day filled with much joy and merriment and excrement throwing.

Pre-production was rampant and productive. Or pre-productive, I guess. Pre-pro is kind of like foreplay. You take off songs that are getting in the way, get real intimate with the songs that will make the cut, rub them, caress them, warm them up, and get them ready so that when you hit the first drum or the first string you’re ready to arch some backs. We’ve whittled a dozen songs down to five for this session, they’re great songs (if I do say so), and soon we will start suckling at the musical teet. Travis Wyrick is producing and the guy is a complete badass. Just take a trip to his wiki page and have a gander. We’ll post kibbles and bits of the process as he takes our songs and turns them up to 11. Talk to you soon and we’ll hold hands.

    Cheers,
